Nano-G Anti-slip Coating For Water Theme Parks

Anti-slip Coating For Water Theme Parks Are Crucial For Safety

In worst case scenarios, a catastrophic fall accident can put your water theme park business on news headlines.

When most people think of an amusement park injury, they imagine devastating injuries that occur on thrill rides in extreme parks. Although those incidents happen once in a blue moon, they are rare. The reality is that the most common cause of injuries at amusement parks are due to slips and falls, from tripping hazards and slippery surfaces. Ironically, this makes water theme parks one of the more dangerous locations despite their original intentions of being a fun wonderland for both adults and kids. Thus, the usage of anti-slip coatings at water theme park is a crucial step to be taken to ensure unwanted accidents from happening.

Who is responsible for slip and fall injuries in theme parks?

Owners and operators of resorts or theme parks take on the dual roles of properly maintaining attractions and rides while ensuring a safe environment for guests in all spaces across the premises.

At best, falls become slapstick humour for those who witness it. At worst, it becomes a court case.

When amusement parks and water theme parks are mentioned, it is natural to imagine children running and playing around happily – but it usually takes being a parent or a caretaker of children and the elderly to become warier of slip-and-fall accidents in such high-traffic places.

As operators of water theme parks, it is easy to fall into the trap of only focusing on ride and attraction safety while overlooking safety in a cafeteria or toilet space. However, operators must take note that no matter where your guests sustain a slip and fall injury, the theme park can be held liable in court if they are deemed negligent; and this injury liability may be put on the theme park’s owner, ride manufacturer, or even a concession stand owner!

Slip and Fall Accidents May Make You Liable To Lawsuits

These headlines may seem ridiculous – until it happens to someone you love.

Customers who had a slip and fall accident in your business premise are entitled to make an injury claim against you. Stay alert, read more:

Prevention is the best solution for slips and falls.

1. Display appropriate signages.

Display proper signage to avoid slip and fall accidents

A simple act of displaying signages as these can keep you out of court for negligence.

Once customers are made aware of the slippery surface, the burden is now on them to exercise extra caution as they walk along wet surfaces, or simply avoid the area altogether. Additionally, putting up signages show that you as the operator of the premise have displayed your Duty of Care towards your guests, visitors, and customers.

2. Implement regular safety inspections around high-traffic areas.

Perform regular inspection to ensure tiles and floor are safe for walking

Sometimes, a safety feature failure may happen due to wear and tear – but this can be avoided with regular inspections.

For water theme park and resorts, the tiles or floor surface must be made slip-proof for walking even when the surface is wet. The surface of the floors around high-traffic areas such as the toilet, sidewalks, cafeteria, and attractions should be checked regularly to ensure there is no untreated corner that may cause slips and falls. Additionally, pay extra attention to the safety of the stairs – a slip-and-fall accident on stairs can be fatal.

3. Place plenty of rubbish bins throughout the park.

Place rubbish bins around the theme park to prevent littering

Ensuring that no garbage is littered on the ground has more benefits than just aesthetic ones.

If your park or resort has F&B vendors, be sure to place plenty of rubbish bins throughout the park to discourage visitors from littering and causing spillage on the floor. Oil, liquid, food chunks, fruit peels, and even food wrappers are known to cause slips and falls for visitors who accidentally step on them.

4. Use Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip coating on walking surfaces.

Coating the floors of your water theme parks with an anti-slip solution is the most sensible thing operators can do to ensure public safety.

Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip coating is the perfect solution for water theme park and resorts to prevent customers from slip-and-fall accidents within your business premises. With our technology, operators do not have to close the park for extended periods – as our coating dries in less than 48 hours after application. The coating does not alter the appearance of the flooring or tiles, so you don’t have to worry about ruining the expensive and beautiful floor designs in your theme park. Last but not least, treated surfaces are extra durable and scratch resistant for many years.

Nano-G Offers The Best Anti-Slip Solution For Your Home Kitchen

The Importance of Anti-slip Coating In Your Kitchen

If you have young children, pregnant women, elderly people, and persons with disabilities living in your premises – slip-proofing your kitchen brings more benefits than you think.

Your kitchen is where meals are prepared day-to-day. It is also the cornerstone of celebrating special occasions and parties, being the single place where all the cutting, cooking, and washing is happening. Compared to other parts of the home, the kitchen at home is buzzing with the most life and activity – but many of us fail to consider the multiple health and safety hazards here. On the top of your mind, you can probably name a few kitchen hazards; sharp objects, the potential for burns, heavy objects, etc. But what about the risk of slips and falls, even with the most careful chef? This is where an anti-slip coating for the kitchen floor becomes crucial.

Here are some important reasons for you to consider anti-slip coating for your kitchen at home.

1. Minimise injuries from slips, trips, and falls.

Children are prone to fall-sustained injuries, and minimising the chances of slips and falls can critically reduce these occurrences.

At best, slips and trips result in a small “oops” moment. At worst, they are fatal. In between, falling down in a slippery kitchen causes pain, sprains, and fractures on the hips, shoulder, or back. Every year, one in three elderly slips and falls at home – and you definitely should not leave the results of the fall up to chance. Thus, slip-proofing your kitchen at home is a necessary precaution to prevent such injuries.

2. Hold “collision” accidents at bay.

Slippery Kitchen Floors May Cause Collisions That Leads To Injuries

Slipping and falling in the kitchen can cause a domino effect that leads to other more severe accident scenarios.

A floor with good traction lowers the risks of collision in the kitchen, especially when there is more than one person in the area. The one who slipped may bump into the other who happens to be handling a safety hazard such as a knife or boiling water – resulting in cuts, lacerations, punctures, scalds, or burns. At best, the accident leads to bruises. At worst, slips and falls in the kitchen may lead to freak accidents.

3. Fewer worries, more productivity.

If you’re constantly worried about your footing in the kitchen, chances are that your meal preparation time is often stressful and nerve-wracking. You may find yourself completely exhausted by the end of a simple meal-prep session – but confused about why you found the task so mentally daunting. All of that can be overcome with a anti-slip coating for the kitchen, so that you can concentrate better on creating the perfect dish.

4. Keep the safety of your family in check.

Nano-G's Anti-Slip Treatment Benefits Disabled or Elderly Family Members At Home

Bear in mind that the elderly have more brittle bones and are more susceptible to the worse consequences of a simple fall.

Other than children, if you have family members who are elderly or disabled – they are often seeking to gain more independence in their own homes. By making your kitchen floor slip-proof, at-risk individuals may feel safe, seen, and supported in their own homes – elevating joy and lowering stress for everyone under the same roof.

Safeguard your kitchen at home with Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-Slip Floor Coating.

Nano-G anti-slip for confinement center 2

Slip and Fall Prevention in Confinement Centres

Keeping both mother and newborn baby safe in a slip-free environment.

New mothers who embark on their new journey in postpartum confinement are increasingly checking themselves into confinement centres – due to the quality of care they can expect in meeting the needs of new mothers and newborn infants.  Moreover, confinement centres are redefining the confinement period experience, making it feel less isolating in an environment that encourages interaction between mothers and caretakers.

Confinement centres are also expected to be a safe haven for mothers and children, and the management is liable for any safety hazards as it serves as a sanctuary for two groups of very vulnerable people. Thus, the installation of anti-slip methods should be considered as one of the most basic requirements of safety for confinement centres.

Nano-G anti-slip for confinement center woyo

Nano-G’s client, Woyo Confinement Center, engaged Nano-G’s services due to the unparalleled quality of our solutions that are highly effective and non-toxic, perfect for a premise centered around the well-being of mothers and children.

How does having anti-slip floors contribute to building a good reputation for confinement centres?

Besides the availability of reliable staffs, knowledgeable caretakers, and nutritious food, the safety and comfort of mothers and infants are also of great importance. One aspect to enhance the provision of clean and safe facilities for occupants is anti-slip floors, as slip and fall accidents can lead to serious complications for new mothers or infants. Newborns do not have fully developed skulls, and are thus highly vulnerable to fatal injuries should caretakers or mothers drop them as a result of a slip or fall. Hence, confinement centres can reduce unwanted accidents, fatal injuries, and even possible legal problems by properly slip-proofing the floors.

What methods can confinement centres engage with to slip-proof their floors?

There are a few strategies to prevent occupants and employees from being a victim of slip and fall accidents in confinement centres. For starters, the management can consider purchasing…

1. Anti-slip mats

Anti-slip mats are most suitable to be fixed in wet areas like bathroom floors and the kitchen. The mats create a textured surface to increase friction. The downside of anti-slip mats is the accumulation of water beneath the mats that must be cleaned regularly to prevent bacteria and mold buildup, which causes even anti-slip mats to be slippery after some time!

2. Anti-slip socks/shoes

These nylon socks and shoes come with grip features on the soles, and they are a quick and affordable way to keep feet cozy while providing extra traction to tread on slippery floors. However, they may not be suitable for use in the bathroom.

Undoubtedly, permanent anti-slip installations are more ideal for confinement centers. There are two commonly available alternatives offered in the market, namely…

3. Epoxy flakes floor coating

This solution typically uses epoxy chemicals and flakes to create textures on existing floor tiles, and the process involves grinding the tile top to create the ideal surface for the solution to be attached. While epoxy coatings are affordable and long-lasting, the installation process is hazardous, polluting, and unsafe for occupants due to dust and chemical particles in the air – dangerous to mothers and newborns and disruptive to their recovery processes.

4. Nano-G Anti-slip Floor Coating

Nano-G’s nanotechnology anti-slip floor coating is highly recommended as a healthier, non-toxic alternative to increase the friction of slippery floor surfaces. This method creates a grainy texture on the surface using nanotechnology to create excellent friction without the need for invasive hacking, grinding, or using toxic chemical fumes. This method also makes little to no changes to existing tile appearances, and the process takes only between 24 to 48 hours without producing pollution or disturbances to occupants and neighbours.

Nano-G Preventing Slip & Fall For Young Children

Slip & Fall Prevention For Young Children

Children are a joy to have at home, but their boundless energy also means that they are prone to injuries due to underdeveloped physiologically factors, and also external hazards such as staircases, loose equipment, open windows, and slippery floors.

In Malaysia and the USA, falls are the most common cause of injury for young children that lead to emergency visits and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). On a less severe note, falls cause more open wounds and fractures than other factors – and most falls happen at home. Thus, it is important for parents and guardians to safeguard their homes and be mindful of locations that have a higher probability of slips and falls accidents especially children.

Other than fatalities, what are some common slip and fall accidents and injuries you should be aware of? Read more at:

Anti-Slip Solution with Nano-G

Increase friction to reduce fatalities. If you are doing your research on anti-slip coatings to protect your home, here are some of the most common areas that are prone to slip and fall accidents you should take note of.

1. The Kitchen

You probably don’t need research to tell you how dangerous a kitchen is for a child, but we’re presenting to you the statistics anyhow. Research overseas has found that 3.5 million children end up in the emergency room every year, and about 2,200 of them die from injuries sustained from hot kitchen appliances and sharp utensils. A wet kitchen floor increases these risks by many folds, as children may slip on oil or water, hurting themselves during the fall if there were carrying sharp or hot objects. Always be sure to wipe clean and degrease kitchen floors, and train your children to sit down when it’s time to eat to prevent spillage.

Having children playing and running unsupervised in kitchens may lead to accidents, injuries, or worse – fatalities.

2. The Bathroom

All toddlers and infants must be supervised when they use the toilet or bathroom, due to the multiple safety hazards present there – one of the hazards being a slippery, wet floor. Fall injuries are common in the bathroom due to frequently being wet, plus the combination of detergent, soaps, and shampoos reduces friction on the smooth bathroom tiles. Be sure to use anti-slip mats as a short-term solution, and consider treating the bathroom floors with an anti-slip coating as a permanent preventive measure.

Children see bathrooms as mini water parks at home. However, soap and water spills increase the likelihood of slips & falls, as well as climbing onto stools or bumping into sharp edges or objects in the bathroom.

Poor child had her leg stuck in the toilet and suffered 2 hours of pain waiting for rescue from the fire department.

There are many ways to incorporate anti-slip methods and technologies at home. Here are some of them for you to consider, including each method’s pros and cons:

3. Balconies

The saying “curiosity killed the cat” often applies to children as well, unfortunately. Always remember that children do not have adequate risk-assessment skills, and their brains are still developing. It is up to the adults to ensure that locations such as an open glass door, windows, and balconies are locked, childproofed, and safeguarded from slips and falls – because cases of children falling through these openings are common.

Keep your children safe from balconies, and protect yourself from the regret of losing them to fall injuries or fatalities.

Supervise children at all times and ensure that all tripping/climbing hazards are removed to prevent falls. Remember to position balcony furniture far away from railings so that children cannot climb them, and choose heavy furniture that cannot be moved by children instead of cheap plastic ones.

4. Pool Sides & Playgrounds

Public places for children’s activities like swimming pools and playgrounds should be safe for them to run around and explore, but oftentimes safety regulations may not be up to par – which causes easily avoidable accidents. Thus, it is advised to avoid peak hours when the pool or park is crowded, after school hours when the children are overwhelmed, and rainy days when the park equipment and surrounding floors can be slippery. Alternatively, if it is within your control, engage us for anti-slip treatment on slippery tiles or surfaces for swimming pool areas and playgrounds.

The pool has many fixtures and hard edges that may become safety hazards if children are left unsupervised.

Do you have a swimming pool at home? Consider safeguarding the pool area and read the article below:

5. The Staircase

Stairs are often seen as a plaything for imaginative children, making them highly susceptible to injuries from a nasty fall. Infants and toddlers cannot comprehend the gravity of tumbling down the stairs. Meanwhile, older children who run up and down the stairs may trip and injure themselves. The easiest way to safeguard the staircase at home is to remove clutter on the stairs and install safety gates.

Sometimes, it is not entirely the fault of the child – even parents can make mistakes!

Conclusion

Your home should be a safe haven for children to grow, explore, and enjoy their childhood, but invisible dangers may be lurking if adults are not careful enough. With so many nooks and corners to care about, one way you can reduce your worries at home as a parent or guardian is to treat floors with an anti-slip coating to reduce the likelihood of fatal accidents sustained from slips or falls that may affect your children.

That way, you can free up your mind to pay attention to the more important things in life.

Safeguarding Hotel Spaces Like Lobbies, Bathrooms, and Stairs From Slip & Fall Accidents

Prioritize the safety of your guests and employees without compromising on the aesthetic beauty of your hotel’s interior design.

With the tourism industry reopening after a three-year-long shutdown, your hotel will soon see an influx of both local and international guests. As part of the hotel management team, do not omit the importance of guest safety in areas with high risks of slip and fall accidents.
This applies to hotels of any star rating, because not only do these accidents derail your guests from their plans, but your hotel is also legally responsible for ensuring that there is no safety or health hazard on your premises. If the slip and fall accident happened as a result of negligence on the part of the hotel, your customer can file a personal injury claim. Therefore, using an anti-slip solution is crucial for hotel management to prevent accidents and ensure guest safety.

Did you know that your guests or customers are entitled to make an injury claim if they slip and fall in your hotel? Read more at:

Slips and falls have accounted for over 1.5 million ER visits since 2001. Although some of these cases may be minor, the ones that are serious often have devastating and life-changing trauma on the victim such as spinal or head injuries, lacerations, broken bones, and knee injuries, depending on the circumstances. For example, there was a notable case about a woman who fell on a wrinkled floor mat and broke her arm in the lobby Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. The hotel had laid the mat because of rain.

The Common Causes of Slips and Falls in Hotels

People may be surprised at the number of slip-and-fall hazards in hotels. Below are a list of hotel spaces that are prone to causing slips and falls due to the frequency of wet floors.

1. In guest bathrooms.

Accidents can happen in bathrooms due to leaking fixtures, protruding faucets, and lack of safety aids such as grab bars and non-slip strips or mats in the bathtub or shower area. Slips and falls in hotel bathrooms are known to result in serious injuries such as broken bones, spinal injuries, and brain injuries.

A case study by JMW Solicitors LLP from the United Kingdom saw a client who received a £22,000 compensation settlement from the hotel after she slipped and broke her arm in the hotel bathroom due to a defective showerhead fixture leaking water on the bathroom floor, making it wet and slippery.

2. In hotel lobbies.

Hotel lobbies have high footfall and are often crowded during peak holiday periods. Slip and fall accidents often happen due to water spillage or wet floors that were just cleaned. In some extreme cases, there was a news report on a 9-month pregnant lady who slipped on it another guest’s vomit pool and was injured.

In an article released by AsiaOne, a former endurance racing driver was left wheelchair-bound after a fall in a wet hotel lobby at the VIP Hotel in Balmoral Crescent, Singapore. She twisted her ankle and suffered injuries to her left knee.

3. Near swimming pools.

A swimming pool can quickly turn from a place of fun to a place of danger if staff members fail to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the pool perimeter. The surfaces near the pool can become smooth and slippery over time, and stairs leading into the pool need to be marked and maintained routinely.

In Florida, USA; a guest has sued the hotel for injuries sustained from a fall while exiting the hotel pool area. The guest claimed that the fall was caused by a step-down, which created a dangerous condition and in their words, “presented a unique, special hazard”.

Hotel swimming pool areas can be made safer with our nanotechnology anti-slip coating. Here are five ways we can help hotel achieve a degree of safety at their poolside.

Nano-G 5 Ways Your Swimming Pool is Safer with Nano-G Anti-Slip Solution

4. On stairways.

Broken and worn stairs, poor lighting, unsteady or broken handrails, or slippery floor tiles are all contributing factors to a slip and fall accident.

5. At the restaurant.

When staff members do not clean up spills and debris, guests are at risk of slipping and falling. Buffets can be especially dangerous with a steady stream of people walking about on the premises with their meals, potentially spilling their food or beverage onto the floors.

Closing

In slip and fall cases, hotel liability depends on whether or not the hotel has neglected its responsibilities to its guests. Not only is a hotel expected to maintain its grounds to make them safe for guests, but a hotel is also expected to do routine inspections that prevent potential personal injury incidents before they occur. One of the ongoing responsibilities of a hotel includes preventing slips and falls. If an injury occurs at a hotel or resort as a result of negligence, the injured party is entitled to seek financial compensation. Nano-G Nanotechnology Anti-Slip floor coating solutions can help you prevent all of the above from happening in your hotel spaces.

Concrete flooring that are untreated has increased risks of slips

Slip & Fall Prevention – Anti-Slip Mat, Shoes, Tiles Or Floor Treatments?

What are the pros and cons of each anti-slip method commonly available in the industry – and how do I make my choice?

Slip and fall accidents can be fatal especially for senior citizens, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and toddlers – and they are unfortunately quite a common occurrence in households due to wet, slippery floors in bathrooms, kitchens, and staircases. With that in mind, many people look towards the market for all kinds of preventive methods to safeguard their home; but when it comes to matters of life and death, trials and errors are not options or risks to take. So, if you’re doing your research on the most effective anti-slip floor treatment to weigh your cost and benefit, we’ve done your homework for you.

Method 1

Nano-G Nanotechnology Anti-Slip Floor Coating – No hacking, odourless, no changes on surface outlook

Pros:

Our solution is the safest and least intrusive method, certified by NanoVerify. A clear coating that does not change the appearance of the surface, this coating is extremely low maintenance on top of being waterproof and dust proof – effectively preventing bacteria and mould from building up on top or beneath the coating.

Why choose us as the most effective anti-slip floor treatment for waterproofing and safeguarding your home from slip-and-fall accidents? Here are FIVE good reasons to engage.

Anti-Slip Solution with Nano-G

Method 2

Anti-Slip Shoes – Common in Workplaces or Homes

Safety anti-slip shoes are commonly worn by workers in kitchens or laboratories to reduce accidents caused by slips and falls.

Pros:

Most footwear are designed to be slip-resistant to improve safety of the wearer especially in wet conditions. Depending on your requirement, anti-slip boots or slippers are widely available in local stores, cheap to own, and do not change the aesthetic of your home or workplace.

Greasy or wet floors in high-traffic areas such as the kitchen have caused more slip-and-fall accidents than it is being reported.

Cons:

The cheaper shoes may be poorly designed and uncomfortable to wear all-day. At worst, bad shoes can actually cause injury to the wearer. Moreover, due to the frequency of usage, shoes are subject to accelerated wear-and-tear and will require replacements more often than other options. Shoes with poor grip or worn soles put the wearer at risk if navigating areas with wet or oily floor surfaces.

Slipping or falling is only funny in slap-stick comedies, but can be fatal in real life.

Accidents can be bad for business. If you’re thinking whether to save or spend the funds on safety – please read these 2 articles we’ve put together for F&B business owners.

Method 3

Epoxy Flake Coating – Commonly used for waterproofing issues but changes existing surfaces

Epoxy Flakes Antislip

Usage of epoxy flake coating is quite apparent from the changed appearance of the tiles used in this bathroom floor.

Pros:

This technique is commonly used by many contractors to treat floors in public and industrial areas as it gives a new look to floor surfaces by changing the appearance of existing ones. It is often applied on bathroom floors for its waterproofing effect, and its rough surface can prevent slips and falls from happening.

A layer of grain is scattered evenly across the floor before epoxy coating is applied. Changes in appearance of the floor surface are permanent and not removable.

Cons:

As part of the process, contractors will roughen the floors to ensure that the adhesive of the new epoxy coating can strongly hold onto the existing surface. This changes the appearance of the floor – and is not desirable for homeowners or building owners who invested in expensive, premium-looking tiles. The changes are permanent and not removable or reversible.

Discover more in-depth details about the comparison between Epoxy Flakes and other no-hacking solutions to safeguard your home or workplace.

Method 4

Anti-Slip Mats : The Most Common & Affordable Solution

Anti-slip mats are the easiest method preferred by homeowners, and are commonly seen in kitchens and bathrooms.

Pros:

Available for purchase at a very cheap price in almost every hardware shop or supermarket aisle, anti-slip mats have become a must-have in almost every household and restaurant. Designed with traction ridges on both sides, anti-slip mats have been used as liners beneath floor cloths or even as it is in slippery areas like the kitchen or bathroom. They are also easy to maintain and wash.

Gaps and crevices beneath the anti-slip mats make ideal conditions for mould and bacteria to thrive and spread across the floor.

Cons:

Over time, mould and bacteria can build-up under the mat due to frequent contact with moisture and lose its anti-slip effect, increasing the chances of slip and fall accidents. Moreover, anti-slip mats come in fixed manufactured sizes and may not be aesthetically pleasing or suitable to cover a wide area eg. the entire kitchen or an entire flight of stairs.

Restaurants who use anti-slip mats in their kitchen find it very difficult to clean the mats, especially with frequent oil spills in the workplace.

Method 5

Anti-Slip Tiles – Used In The Beginning of Construction

Functional and aesthetically pleasing, anti-slip tiles are the preferred choice for developers constructing new units.

Pros:

Trending among the industry of flooring materials, anti-slip tiles are designed for more friction compared to standard tiles. These anti-slip tiles are special floor tiles with added texture that is layered with a slip-resistant coating, and is most popularly used in the construction of placed that are expected to be wet most of the time eg. bathroom, patio, walkway, etc.

Cons:

For homeowners, the tiles are considered to be an expensive option as it also requires renovation – in a sense that current tiles must be hacked and removed before the contractors can begin. The risk of damage to the property is high, and the process is also intrusive and disruptive on many levels.

Tile replacement is often costly in terms of time, money, and comfort – as it involves hacking and renovation.

Conclusion

Safeguarding and waterproofing your home or building does not cost you much, but it pays in the long run. Accidents can negatively impact the health of your loved ones, guests, and customers physically and mentally, and possibly even your business if it is a hazardous workplace!

Now that you have both pros and cons of all the various options laid down for you, your next move is to decide the most effective anti-slip floor treatment solution that best suits your budget and requirements. Nano-G Slip and Fall Accidents Risk

Why You Should Worry When You Slip & Fall

Prevention is better than hospitalisation. Don’t let a slippery floor be your biggest regret.

If you’re living with family you’re sure to have heard one or two stories about how an aunty or uncle had a slip and fall accidents at home. According to the 2018 Malaysian National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS), 15% of adults over the age of 60 had fallen at least once in a span of 12 months. One in two suffered injuries, while one in five were hospitalised. In more unfortunate circumstances, your distant relative’s accident might have left them for death.

Still, slip and fall accidents go largely underreported despite how common they are. The lucky can get away a few scrapes and bruises, but it’s not the same for everyone.

1. Your elderly parent or relative is more fragile than they’d like to admit.

As bodies age, the elderly become more vulnerable to broken bones or weakened muscles after a fall at home. Your elderly parent or relative might not feel comfortable reaching out to share about their growing pains, but these age-related issues are very real.

In a 2018 survey, it was concluded that women above 70 were more likely to be hospitalised due to any physical or mental impairments they might have. This study, of course, only tracked the nature of hospitalised falls. Many slip and fall accidents go largely unreported because of how common they are.

What’s worse, some elderly women may not be able to physically help get up or recover from the fall. Back in June 2020, a 50-year-old woman slipped and fell INTO a squatting toilet. She had to endure an hour of struggling and pain before help arrived to take her out from the hole in the ground.

Make home safer for older family members

Falls are a normal part of a child’s developmental stage, however, studies have also shown that children with a disability (be it physical or intellectual) are more prone to slip and fall accidents.

Nano-G At-Home Safety For Special Needs Kids and Adults

With this in mind, caregivers have to take special care in ensuring the safety of their loved ones. Your child, student, or relative should have the same opportunities for being independent as much as other able-bodied children. For home, the best method is to change the environment around them to be safer.

Slip and Fall Prevention for Your Kitchen Staff

Keep your staff safe from workplace accidents!

Greasy floors in a busy kitchen at rush hour are a slip and fall accident waiting to happen, keep your workers safe and happy by applying anti-slip on your floors.

As a restaurant owner, you’re probably concerned about the health and safety of your kitchen staff during the lunch or dinner rush. Where food orders seem never-ending and everyone is moving quickly. It doesn’t help that throughout these shifts oil and food debris build-up on the floor and leave the floor greasy and slippery.

Video Credit: CNA via YouTube
In 2019, CNA reported that more than 50% of workplace slip and fall accidents happen in the kitchen and are 80% more likely to happen during peak hours.

Ways to keep your kitchen staff safe from slip and fall accidents

1. Lay down anti-slip rubber mats

Anti-slip maps create bevelled surfaces for you to walk on.

A common practice by restaurant owners in curbing the slip and fall issue is to lay down rubber anti-slip mats (much like in the photo above). However, anti-slip mats can accumulate debris over time, becoming slip and fall hazards on their own. This is because anti-slip mats are still just flat pieces of plastic on the ground that will give way even if the floor is oily or wet.

2. Equip your staff with safety shoes

These boots aren't made for slipping- so that's what they won't do! One of these days these boots will anti-slip your foot.

These shoes are different from your normal shoes because of the number of grooves it has on its sole.

Another way to keep your kitchen workplace safer is by having the dress code to include safety, also known as anti-slip, shoes. Anti-slip shoes manage to give the staff member more grip by providing the wearer more tact and grip when walking or crossing the floor. In fact, it is a common safety measure enforced by bigger restaurant chain owners who have staff members that move around a lot more.

Still, anti-slip mats and shoes don’t exactly tackle the problem of a greasy and slippery floor.

3. Coat a layer of Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating solution on your floors

Nano-G Anti-Slip Floor Coating provides friction on the surface without changing the appearance of the floor.

The key reason why your kitchen staff may slip and fall in the kitchen is because of the slippery and greasy floor, due to a lack of friction it provides. Even after the daily after-work scrubbing, the residual layer of food debris and oil will still remain on the floor surface.

Therefore, one good way to deal with the issue is to slip-proof the floor itself- and Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating solution is able to do just that. Our anti-slip floor coating solution doubles as an anti-microbial and waterproof layer that doesn’t get slippery even when water is splashed on it. It also has the added benefits of being easy to clean, easy to maintain and having a clear coat.

And you don’t have to stop a few days worth of work to have the kitchen slip-proofed! Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating solution ensures that the kitchen will be slip-proof in a matter of 24 hours. What’s more, you don’t have to hack at the kitchen floor or tiles. Instead, we will be coating a transparent and grainy anti-slip layer on your floor that doesn’t change the appearance of your kitchen floor.

Read more about Nano-G’s Anti-Slip Floor Coating solution here:

So, that’s why you need a long-term solution to prevent slip and falls in the restaurant kitchen.

By having a layer of Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating solution on your kitchen floor, you save a lot of hassle in keeping your kitchen safe. For one, you and your staff can rest assured that your anti-slip mat and shoes will work twice as effective with the added precaution of our solution, as our solution is embedded into the smallest pore of your kitchen floor.

Protect the Elderly From Slip and Fall Accidents at the Toilets

Worried about your elderly loved one falling while using the toilet? Slip-proof their floors!

Elderly adults are more prone to slip and fall accidents near the toilet. In fact, a 2018 study by the Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine found that 45% of hospital visits from the elderly are a result of slip and falls at home. Given their fragile bones, these falls can often have serious consequences, including fatalities. This emphasizes the need for effective anti-slip solution to safeguard the elderly in their homes especially their toilet.

In this panel discussion between doctors and nutritionists from Astro AEC’s Health 123 program, it was revealed that 25% of elderly adults above the age of 80 who fell and suffered a femoral fracture die within the year of falling down.

And honestly, critical slip and falls accidents are more common than you think, read more about it here: Fatal Slip and Fall Injuries in Malaysia are More Common Than you Think

That is why we need to take extra precautions for our elderly loved ones.

Ways to Slip-Proof the Elderly’s Toilets

1. Get to the root of the problem with Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating.

Nano-G Anti-Slip Coating on floor tiles
As you can see, our Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating solution creates micrograins on your floors that give your feet extra grit when walking around.

The main cause of slip and fall accidents are slippery floors. So, what you need is a coating option that creates micrograins on your flooring that keeps the floor from getting slippery when wet.

Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating solution ensures that the toilet will be slip-proof in a matter of 24 hours.  What’s more, you don’t have to hack at your walls, or tiles to install extra fixtures to slip-proof your toilet! Instead, we will be coating a transparent and grainy anti-slip layer on your floor that doesn’t change the appearance of your toilet floor.

2. Fix grab bars near the toilet

Another reason why the elderly lose their balance when using the toilet is because of a lack of support when getting up or sitting down. If you’re unable to hire help to assist your elderly loved one, installing grab bars near the toilet AND slip-proofing your toilet floor is a good move to make.

And no, the sink, the toilet paper dispenser, or the toilet rack are not substitutes for a grab bar, as these fixtures are installed more superficially on the walls and are likely to give way if force was put on them.

A towel rack that gave way after force was put on it.

Now, imagine if your elderly loved one was holding on to it for support. They might just end up slipping and cutting themselves on that sharp, exposed end. The goal is to avoid a hospital visit, not create another potential accident.

3. Upgrade your squat toilet to a seated one

The older we get, the less strength we’re able to exert to support ourselves. It’s even more of an issue when lowering your full body into a squatting position over a damp toilet floor. That’s a slip and fall hazard just waiting to happen. And, even if they don’t slip, they may not be able to get up from the squatting position!

That’s why, if you have the means to, upgrade the squat toilet into a seated one for your elderly loved one’s convenience.

A further upgrade is to add an adjustable toilet seat to it, to further lessen the need to squat when using the toilet.

4. Use an anti-slip mat or tape

Another way you can keep your elderly loved one safe from a slip and fall accident is by laying down an anti-slip mat or by placing anti-slip tapes on parts of the toilet that are slip-prone, such as near the toilet bowl or near the door.

Some of our drying mats might even have been made from your grandma.

Still, they don’t directly deal with the issue of a slippery wet floor and will become a slip hazard on their own over time.

5. Declutter the toilet floor

A cluttered toilet floor can cause a slip and fall accident, whereby a stray brush or soap bar can be accidentally stepped on that makes the user skid on the surface. It can also cause additional injuries such as a bruised eye from falling on the handle of a toilet brush.

Oftentimes, our toilets are cluttered because we keep cleaning supplies and equipment around. So, as a general rule of thumb, avoid using the toilet as a storage room for your cleaning supplies or tools. That’s what cabinets and shelves are for!

But honestly, even with a neat toilet room with grab bars, a seated and adjustable toilet, and anti-slip mats and tape- you’re still not fixing the number one cause of slip and fall accidents: a slippery floor.

So, before doing heavy, and costly, renovations to your parent’s toilet, give Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating solution a go. For a lot of Nano-G’s past clients, the anti-slip solution was more than enough to keep their elderly family members from having slip and fall accidents.

5 Ways to Prevent a Bathroom Slip and Fall in Malaysia

How to prevent slip and fall accidents near the toilet or shower, at home, in the office, or at your business.

Slipping and tripping are common misfortunes a person may face when walking on a wet bathroom floor at home, or a damp toilet. Especially in Malaysia, where water from the shower or hose seems to splatter everywhere and take time to dry in our humid weather. While a fall is easy to recover from for some, toilet slip and fall accidents are more dangerous than you might think. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 646,000 individuals die from slip and fall accidents globally. Adults aged 65 and above make up the greatest number of these fatal falls. That’s why investing in anti-slip solutions for your bathroom is crucial.

45% of hospital visits from the elderly are a result of slip and falls at home.
A 2018 study by the Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine found that 45% of hospital visits from the elderly are a result of slip and falls at home.

Even if bathroom mishaps might not result in death, a slip near the toilet may lead to a miscarriage!

Findings from The Maternal and Child Health Journal found that 27% mothers surveyed had slipped and fell during pregnancy. Among them, 35 percent reported falling two or more times. 1.5% resulted in premature labor or delivery.

To prevent you or your loved ones from a bathroom slip and fall accident, you could take these preventative measures at home.

1. Install handrails near the toilet or shower

When you’re older, or pregnant, you might find that your balance is a little shifted. This is either due to a pre-existing medical condition- like weakened knees- or a growing person in your belly. Having a handrail installed near the toilet or shower area would be helpful in providing the walking assistance in a small space. Bear in mind that the sink, toilet paper dispenser or towel rack does not substitute a good handrail. They just aren’t designed to support the weight of a person gripping in need of walking assistance.

Toilet handrails, however, don’t exactly solve the issue of the flooring itself being wet and slippery.

2. Use an old clothes drying mat (with caution)

A common practice in the Malaysian household is to repurpose old t-shirts or towels as drying mats. It’s a quick and eco-friendly solution that reuses worn cloth that would have been thrown away.

Some of our drying mats might even have been made from your grandma.

For extra slip security, you could even use one of those rubber weighted mats that grip the mat to the floor.

But this might not be as safe of an option as you might think. For one, if the floor is wet, the mat is probably already drenched along with it. You only need to go to your nearest cafe or restaurant and observe how the weighted rubber mats outside their toilets still slip around the floor.

Not to mention, this method also doesn’t prevent the bathroom flooring from being wet.

3. Use Anti-Slip Tape or Mats on your bathroom floors

To tackle the wet and slippery bathroom floor, maybe you could use anti-slip tapes or mats.  These two anti-slip products function the same way by creating bevels on the floor for the user to walk safely about.

Anti-slip mats create bevelled rings on the floor that raises you from the wet floor.

Anti-slip tapes are water-resistant adhesives that create ridges on the floor.

While this method might be a good DIY way to slip-proof your shower or toilet, they aren’t good for long term prevention. The space between the anti-slip mat and the floor, for example, is still wet. This still body of water may get contaminated overtime with mould and bacteria. In high foot traffic spaces, anti-slip tape materials may lift to become slip and fall hazards of their own.

4. Coat your toilet floor with an epoxy coating

Okay, so what if you coated the floor with epoxy? Epoxy is a coating material used on the floors of public washrooms, carparks, and hospitals. It is a cheap long-term solution that keeps the flooring dry and waterproof on top of being anti-slip- but it… looks a bit like the surface of a swimming pool.

Do you really want your home’s bathroom or business’ toilet looking like a carpark?

5. Use Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-Slip Floor Coating service for your bathroom or washroom tiles

You paid good money to install your tiles, you should be able to see them too!

What you need is a coating option that creates micro-grains on your flooring that doesn’t mess with the tile designs that you like.

Nano-G’s Nanotechnology Anti-slip Floor Coating service ensures that your toilet or shower areas will be slip proof in a matter of 24 hours. Unlike the epoxy alternative, this anti-slip coating won’t change the appearance of the floor. Instead, it works by glossing over a transparent, rough layer on your tiles.
